MKC Heroes is a unique international pupil voice initiative formed to support the children of Service personnel and Veterans. Members of MKC Heroes are ambassadors and young advocates for Service families across the world. MKC Heroes is supported by The Royal British Legion.
We have lots of Service children here at Nansloe Academy and we have a very large MKC Heroes club of around 40 children! For our youngest members, the MKC leader regularly visits the Reception classroom in order to build relationships during their first year at school. The Key Stage One and Key Stage Two children all meet together once a week, for an after school club and regularly look to raise money for charity. The children help to plan our weekly sessions and these vary greatly from week to week. We play a range of games together inside and outside, use the parachute, carry out craft activities and even occasionally do some cooking!
We have very strong links with RNAS Culdrose and regularly have visitors or service personnel in, to talk about their roles and experiences. In addition to this, frequent trips are made to the base and the children have the opportunity to explore the environment and take part in STEM activities with the Culdrose Naval Training School. We also participate annually in the British Legion Remembrance Day Parade in Helston and observe the Freedom of Helston parade as a whole school.
